When searching for a luxury waterfront home with yacht dockage, there are three factors to consider to determine if a home’s dockage can accommodate your vessel.
Setbacks: The dock’s end setback is usually 5 feet on both sides in Ft Lauderdale. In some situations, the setbacks are 10′. This information is important to know when purchasing a waterfront home in Fort Lauderdale. If you buy a home with 100 feet of waterfront but 10′ setbacks at both ends, the largest yacht you can dock is 80 feet long.
Width: A canal’s width impacts the size of vessel allowed to be docked. There is a 30 percent rule in place that states a docked vessel may only be 30% as wide as the channel.
Depth: A canal’s depth before a purchasing a home. Since sediment build-up is common in many canals, depth between canals is not always equal. The charts provided below will help guide your search for a luxury waterfront home if canal width, depth and setbacks are important factors to your purchasing decision.
